Home Practice WorkshopFriday March 5th, 6-9pm with Meaghan. Cost: $35 If you are trying to practice at home, but finding it hard to get motivated, or are unsure of what to do, what time of day, or just find that there are many obstacles in the way of getting onto your mat, then this is the workshop for you. This workshop will be helpful for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. Whether you have never practiced at home, already do but want to do so more, or used to but have been away from your mat for a while, I hope to inspire, and motivate and support you on your journey of home practice. Why have a home practice? To me, home practice is the meat of yoga, class is where i come for community, inspiration and challenge, my daily home practice is where i get to come home to myself, learn and open to who and how i am, as well as do the poses that are specifically how i want to open my body. Home practice at first for me was a great struggle, and now is a total joy some days, and basic maintenance on others, but always with me. This workshop provides a different method with similar goals to yoga, the method being dance and movement. Workshop description: From moment to moment we change. Our bodies fill with air when we breathe in and empty when we exhale. Our thoughts jump from yesterday's chocolate bar to a conflict at work. Our relationships transition from distance to connected and apart again. From moment to moment, we have the possibility of choosing how we move with change. During this three hour workshop, you will gain clarity on how you encounter change and the choices you make when faced with transition. We will experiment together using a variety of verbal and non-verbal exercises to feel our full range of aliveness. Who is Shenyen? On Meaghan Johnson's travels in India she met an amazing, insightful, incredibly funny Buddhist monk who hails form Liverpool, England. Venerable Shenyen (or Martin if you wish) has a way of relating renunciation, compassion and correct view that makes these topics exciting, alive, thrilling even. Meaghan saw first hand how he ignited a spark in people to lead richer, more meaningful lives, and to walk full of love and wonder through the spaces of their own cultures. Entry into the meditation itself is enabled by relaxation through simple breathing and muscle control exercises.
