Yoga at the Gallery: Embodying our Experience of Art with Meaghan at the KW Art Gallery

Thursday August 26th, 6:30-8:30pm. $25/person plus HST. Minimum of 12 participants, maximum of 15. Register through the Gallery

This two hour workshop will begin in KW|AG's new program space with yoga and meditation practice; stretching, releasing stress and building the capacity to be present in our physical body. We will take our embodied awareness and explore the exhibitions through a self-guided walk. Through this experiment of sense and physical awareness, we may deepen our capacity to be present with ourselves, and also start to see art and art galleries as a place of refuge, learning and playgrounds of experience. The evening will conclude with a sharing of experiences.

  • Strengthen the upper body for greater confidence

  • Prevent injury and compression in the wrists and shoulders

  • Open the hips for kicking up

  • Kick up successfully

  • Balance from the wall

  • Rest the arms, shoulders and legs well afterwards

Stress Reduction and Body Awareness/The Life Art Process

This class is built on a continuous creative interplay between movement, expressive art,* reflection, writing and dialogue. Each class begins with a simple movement resource. Immersing ourselves completely in the moment, we give ourselves over to arising sensation, feeling, image or thought. Without reservation or judgment we welcome whatever in us wants to come forward. We cultivate the willingness to witness, surrender, deconstruct, rebuild, not know, let go of attachments to what will happen, take risks, welcome the shadow - and celebrate the breakthrough into a new form or way of being.

  • Week One: Self Portrait

  • Week Two: Going Deeper with the Self Portrait

  • Week Three: Mask and Unmask

  • Week Four: Finding Your Animal Ally

  • Week Five: Steering into the Skid

  • Week Six: Opening and Closing

Please dress comfortably and bring a pen and journal. Art materials will be supplied. No prior experience necessary.
