Nancy Leach

Nancy Leach (Schaeffer) MAT, M.Sc., BMCP was introduced to meditation in 1971 when she became certified as a Yoga teacher by Swami Vishnudevananda. She dipped in and out of "sitting practice" for the next two decades, until meeting Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen in l985 and beginning studies to become a practitioner of Body Mind Centering. Not surprisingly, her practice since that time has been anchored in body awareness.

Nancy has studied with Shinzen Young and Roshi Joan Halifax, as well as locally with Diane Frederick, Susan Child, and currently, Norman Feldman. She completed the Advanced Training of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, DC in 2005.

Nancy was Program Director at HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre for almost nine years. She now offers classes and counseling through Mindful Way in Waterloo, with an emphasis on introducing people to the skills they need to live with greater awareness and wellbeing. She is the author of The Body Means Well: Empowered Healing.

In her own words

It was not easy for me to learn to sit. I hear people say, "I was always spiritual as a child..." Not me. I was well behaved on the outside, but very restless and wounded within. Sitting still without also spacing out was a challenge! And so I can relate to the struggles some of my students experience in simply being "present." And I delight in sharing a practice that has become so fundamental to my own wellbeing.
