You must register for this course. In this eight week course we will be learning techniques of Buddhist meditation to help bring ourselves towards a state of peace and happiness, independent of external circumstances. These practices have been used for centuries to help people to observe the habit patterns of their mind and learn how to change negative patterns into positive ones. The practice of metta (or loving kindness) is emphasized in this course to transform ones heart in relation to oneself and others. We will cover not only the mental aspects of meditation, but also the physical and environmental factors that are involved in the practice. BodyMind Meditation with NancyIntro MindBody MeditationThis 8-week course is designed to gently ease you out of the busy, "stressed out" thinking mind into a place of wholeness that welcomes the felt sense of the physical body. We begin by focusing on the breath, bringing awareness into the present moment. We work with the practice of bringing mindfulness into everyday life - washing the dishes, sitting at the computer, or eating a meal. We begin to develop sensory clarity by focusing on body sensations, sight, sound, and the thinking mind, and talk about working with difficult emotions such as anxiety, anger or hurt. Finally, we touch upon forgiveness of others and ourselves. Each class includes a short talk, sitting practice and question time. Continuing MindBody MeditationPrerequisite: Beginning MindBody Meditation or by permission of instructor This 8-week course is designed to provide on-going support for meditation practice. We will continue to develop concentration, sensory clarity and equanimity by working with the breath, body sensations, feeling, sight, sound, image and the thinking mind. Very little new material will be introduced; rather, we will deepen our practice around the fundamentals, steadying the mind and becoming more and more familiar with the process of welcoming our experience just as it is.
